Another LGBTQ Stream Should Be Added

yeah, I don't think kids under 13 should be on imgflip in the first place, so I don't know why they need to be so aggressive about adults who are actually allowed on here

Matter of fact, the other day a few friends and I went out and founded a whole bunch of LGBTQ streams for more niche and mature, politically-oriented topics.

I will warn you right away though that the streams are semi-dead and I am basically the only one there. Lol

Problem here is, the userbase of this site (LGBTQ included) isn’t all that big to begin with, and just trends really young overall. Older folks are hard to come by, and older folks like myself who are interested in supporting the LGBTQ community either as a queer person themselves or as an ally are even rarer.

The LGBTQ stream is incredibly active but yes, it can be a bit off-putting to those of us who haven’t been super interested in things like bingo or truth-or-dare for awhile.

But, glad to see the interest here in more mature LGBTQ discussion 🏳️‍🌈

The Goonies — I am a bit old(er) in the context of this site but still not that old. Hah. The movie predates my existence on the earth by a bit.

“Splotched bingo cards,” hah. Yes, it kind of sums up the stream at times. I like to submit new memes to LGBTQ every now and then but don’t spend a lot of time there because those sort of memes don’t appeal to me. But I do like to mod the stream because it is a frequent target of homophobic hate and I want to help stop the teens from seeing that if I can.

Your memes weren’t hateful, just a couple of them didn’t seem to “fit.” The content guidelines of that stream are murky and the content itself is all over the map, so even those of us who have been there awhile struggle with how exactly to enforce topicality.

Last thing, unfortunately there is a lot of general rudeness and impoliteness on this site like the one memer here who was arguing with you. Rudeness that stops short of being hateful is more difficult to mod — and it happens all the time here, sadly. My suggestion is you hit the “block” button on any memer who is treating you like that.

You can also make sure you have all your gifs saved and/or recreated, and once you’re sure you have them saved, just click on each one and delete them yourself. No mod involvement necessary.

One last thought before you go: I understand why you feel out of place there. I don’t always feel like I 100% belong there either. And I’m sad to see some of the hate you’ve gotten. But look on the bright side. Your work was appreciated — look at all the upvotes you got!

There’s no training program for any mod as far as I know, even the site mods. The way it typically works is you (1) follow a stream, (2) submit your memes and make your comments, and then (3) after a certain period of time, if the existing owners of the stream think you are a good fit, they might send you a mod invite.

Some streams have too many mods and it gets chaotic since everyone is making their own judgment calls and have different standards. Others have too few mods and become vulnerable to trolls. Everything in moderation, right? No pun intended :)

The LGBTQ stream is a unique one because of the complex issues involved, and because of the homophobic and transphobic hate that still sadly exists. I think I submitted content to that stream for the better part of a year before I got a mod invite, and even then, only because I asked. Just one example of how it works.

Or: you can create your own stream and you’re the owner automatically! But then you have to build it from the ground-up and find the users :)
