I guess that depends on the definition of life skills. In high school, I got most of my requirements out of the way in the first two years, then learned woodworking, boatbuilding, fiberglass work, metalworking and some electronics. I used a lot of those skills to build parts for the boat I had in school, and still use those skills on the boat I have now.
I understand many schools don't have all these options, and many kids were not aware of the opportunities that are available, so I see where you are coming from. Then there is the stigma of taking 'life lesson' classes as opposed to classes geared towards going to a 4 year college. Teachers and guidance counselors were not happy when I took Marine Tech. instead of Calculous.
