That is all very true. I am not a Republican or a Democrat. There are lots of things that irritate me about both parties, but I will admit that I am a Conservative who often times votes for the Libertarian candidate. Somehow the idea of casting my vote for candidates like Romney, McCain, Dole, etc. was so distasteful that I just voted Libertarian instead.
The thing that sticks in my mind about the Carter years was something called “The Misery Index”. Back then, the press was far more even handed. I seem to remember that the misery index measured all kinds of metrics such as inflation rate, interest rate, gasoline availability, etc.
An index was calculated based upon those metrics, and that Misery Index was widely reported by all news sources. Add things like the Iranian Hostage situation, a botched rescue raid that was micro-managed from the Oval Office, and Carter was a one term president.
