A true democracy is a type of government where citizens vote on everything, from laws, officials, everything government related, that affects the public. A true republic is when people just vote on leaders to decide things for them. So yes, the United States of America, is technically a democratic-republic because people vote on both laws and officials, as well as officials also making laws inside a central government themselves.
