There is an excellent profile of Mr. Cua in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It quoted him saying the vilest things. If any of it was his original thoughts, I would be shocked. Most of it sounded like the White-Wing Talk Radio garbage I hear recycled here. But, he acted on it. The list of charges against him is not slim or minor. Barring a miracle, he will begin his young adult life as a felon doing hard-time.
As I read about this kid, I thought of two people, Greta Thunberg, and my own 38-year old son. Greta Thunberg came to mind because I think adults have used her precociousness to advance their own political agenda. I think Bruno Cua has been molded into what he is by his affluent parents. His mother quit her practice as a Veterinarian to home school him. The local police recalled an incident in which they came to his house to issue him a citation for using the loud air horn on his truck to harass people based on their politics. He had been issued a warning by the police for an earlier incident. His mother confronted the cop and said that he should be catching kids smoking pot instead of giving her kid a ticket. The story reported that the cops played her a recording of her son blowing the horn as his father recorded it on his phone. They both encouraged this behavior. They drove him to the January 6 Trump Rally.
I thought of my son, because 20 years ago when he was 18, he was just as enthusiastic about the WWF as Cua was about the "revolution.". It is possible that Bruno Cua pretended that he was this character he played out like my son pretended to be Rowdy Roddy Piper. Too bad the "Pretend Patriot," didn't understand that that was a real cop he was beating with his metal baton and not a "cos-play commie." He now wants to say he's sorry. I don't think the Federal Judge is going to give him a "Do-Over."
