I personally believe that we should have gun licenses, where you state the reason you need the gun, you agree to visit annual check-ups, and the government lets you buy that gun. If you buy an unnecessary gun, the government may confiscate it

if a criminal comes to your house it could be an hour before the police show up, which is plenty of time for horrible things to happen.

Even so, unless the burglar uses deadly force, you are not permitted by law to use deadly force against them, so in most cases (I mean the vast majority), guns would not help
