Mary being white was just another racist myth by the white people, They are actually middle eastern.

We can say they're white, brown, whatever, but what matters is how they get treated.

Then it shouldn't matter if Mary Magdalene was white, brown, whatever. If that person ever existed.

The actual ethnic and cultural origins of these people is interesting, because what they did comes out of those specifics of culture, ethnicity and language. BUT, until we can come up with a logical, meaningful definition of "white" that we can apply to these discussions, let's not get into a flame war over the issue.

The US government uses this definition:

White – A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa.

I admit it is not a great definition, but that is what the demographic information we use is based on. In my view, the definitions of race are subjective and vary over time. Even someone who is considered non white in one context may be considered white in a different context.

Exactly. So there's what the US Census calls you, how you think of yourself, how the outside world treats you . . . as Tevye says, I'm running out of hands here. I totally agree on the subjectivity of the definitions. There's no absolute, only contexts.

I honestly don't think that whiteness has any meaning except as a social category. People on this site who care a lot about whiteness have told me both that Jews are "dirty" and "non-white" and that "all middle easterners are white". Suffice it to say, that if Mary, Joseph and their baby fled from Herod's persecution today, they probably would be denied sanctuary here on the grounds that their ethnicity/ national origin made them a terrorist threat.
