I think everyone has an innate desire to vanquish or otherwise silence those who oppose them. It's not necessarily constrained by politics. Heck, if the NFL allowed players to use their time on the job to make political statements then I'd say Colin Kaepernick was a victim of cancel culture (currently I believe he violated NFL code by making political statements on the job, and therefore was not cancelled but fired for breaking league rules...as I said I don't know what their rules were at the time.
So I'd definitely not exempt either side from being guilty of trying to cancel demagogues on the other. The right is constantly screaming their heads off at whatever celebrity decides to voice their liberal views this week, but complain when Gina Carano is fired for making political remarks (to be fair, she basically said the same thing Pedro Pascal did, so in her particular case I feel Lucasfilm was grossly unfair, but I say this more to illuminate hypocrisy on the right than get into the Carano situation).
So both sides are definitely guilty.
