When someone says mayonnaise, as a white person I don't have to worry they're about to kill me and not suffer any consequences for doing so. When someone uses the n-word, black people have every reason to worry they might be killed.

So why are people saying it isn't a slur? Are we saying it is our isn't?

Because it's about as hurtful as calling someone a doodyhead.

As ridiculous as "mayo" sounds, it is meant that way, and the right has always been somewhat on the 'sensitive side.'

Racial slurs work when the person being called it feels there is a truth behind it. The right hate being called Mayo because they know they are racists and it’s a means of mocking them.
