If it wasn't for tenacity or trying to accomplish the same thing over and over until it succeeds, we wouldn't have many of the things we evnjoy today (light bulbs, TVs, computers and Internet). Surely what Einstein meant was doing the same thing in exactly the same way. i.e. jumping off a cliff in an attempt to fly, somehow surviving and repeating the same experiment the same way and hoping for a better outcome (most likely a grusome death is the only other outcome in that case). Yes, they tried to take over the world, but did it in a different way each time.
