In like story and progression terraria is better but if you want to build something Minecraft is better

Terraria also has more combat options. (Which I guess could go under progression)

Wait until you see Stardew Valley

In Terraria, there's more content and not much to do after beating Moon Lord
In Minecraft, there's a larger focus on building, and a lot to do after defeating the Ender Dragon

Terraria is focused on exploration and combat while Minecraft is focused on building

If you like both Terraria and Minecraft, you should play Starbound. It's a good mix of both.

I love it.

It does not share textures and progression.
It may have a slightly similar pixel style, but it's not sharing textures with Terraria.
And unlike Terraria, there's actually a PLOT to Starbound.
