OK. Calling all experts on Georgia's new SB 202. Please indicate when you read Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to elections and primaries generally, Chapter 35 of Title 36 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to home rule powers, Title 50 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to general provisions regarding state government, Chapter 2 of Title 21 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to elections and primaries generally, is amended by revising paragraph (35) of Code Section 21-2-2, Code Section 1-1-3, paragraph (35) of Code Section 21-2-2, relating to definitions. These laws are cited liberally in the text of SB202. These are the laws amended by this act. You cannot fully understand what this law does or does not do without complete knowledge of those laws. So, please indicate that you have read them and understand what they say. Then, we can have a discussion about what this law really does. Until then, we can only discuss its intent.
Clearly, the message from Georgia Republicans is that they view the 2020 elections as rife with fraud. Investigations by their own government agencies responsible for such problems and outside, independent parties have concluded that is not true. Yet line 3 of section 2 of this law says that it was prompted by "allegations of rampant voter fraud." So, the intent of the passage of this law includes dealing with"rampant voter fraud," which has all but been proved to not exist. Section two of the law also mentions "allegations of voter suppression." Voter suppression, which is a serious problem is only alleged and not investigated. Whereas, voter fraud, which has been all but disproved, is offered as a great reason to pass a law that is viewed as racially motivated by just about every major corporation in America and Major League Baseball.
Why would so many of my fellow capitalists, and the people who administer America's sport see this law in that light? The worst kept secret in the 2020 election in Georgia is that an increase in the number of Black Voters resulted in a state that had been solidly Republican, voting for Democrats for President and the two US Senate seats. This undermines the "allegations of voter suppression," cited in the law. In fact, the law by suggesting "rampant fraud," implies that the newer voters, mostly Black, would be the source of said fraud. That is racism, pure and simple.
