Don't speak for Texans.
The energy failures during the once-in-a-decade ice storm were a result of a system built for hot weather being subject to extreme cold weather. If you insulate a system for cold weather but subject it to hot weather, it fails in similar ways. When it's hot 99% of the time, you build the system for hot weather.
The only people who weren't prepared to deal with the weather were those in the cities who decided to trust the city government to take care of them. The large cities are run by Democrats, who don't take care of anyone but themselves. The elderly and infirm were taken to area hotels and motels where generators kept the heat running.
On day 3 without power or water, I made tacos. Day 4 I made eggs and bacon for breakfast. It was day 4 that I attempted to venture out, because I only had enough fuel for another 24 hours of generator use. We got power back on day 5, and our water was back on day 9.
Throughout the entire ordeal, I kept a brooder with 250 chicks (chickens) operating.
Texans (real Texans) are self sufficient and we take care of each other.
