We agree, then. I was not trying to suggest that most police officers shoot people: that would be completely untrue. I am following the same facts that you have, and then adding an idea that follows.
We agree that: Police officers aren't supposed to be shooting people, and the vast majority of them never fire their weapons while on duty.
To me, that suggests that they don't NEED to have weapons while on duty.
The police in many other countries don't always carry guns. I am not saying that NO police should have guns, but that MOST police don't need to carry a gun on MOST days they are on duty.
