In popular use "swastika" refers to the symbol. Most people associate it with the Nazis. I don't know anyone, and my friends and associates are fairly well educated, who would automatically associate a white circle against a red background with anything negative like the Nazis. Clay Whitehead, M.D., in his "Psycho-environemental Redesign," study reported that people respond positively to "warm," colors. That helps explain why the biggest selling product in the world for many years was Marlborough Cigarettes. Marketers know psychology. So, many would choose a red background for product labeling. It has less to do with the "swastika," than the visceral responses to "warm," colors.
