No, we need a potus. Esp in emergencies.

"However [political parties] may now and then answer popular ends, they are likely in the course of time and things, to become potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion."

I agree. You need an "executive" who runs the day to day of governance. Which is what the POTUS really does- they run the beaucracy.

Congress actually is in charge of the US. They set the rules. They set the budget. The POTUS carries out what they say to do. Even if we went to a parliamentary system (which is what you're proposing), we'd still need someone to handle running the backstage of the show, and we'd have a Prime Minister.

which, functionally, is the same as a President.

Congress vs. the Presidency. | image tagged in biden train no no he s got a point deep-fried 1 | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
I think the Presidency has gained far too much power in recent years -- moving into a power vacuum left behind precisely because Congress most of the time behaves more like a middle school debating club than an actual arm of government.

I'm especially concerned by Congress's (i.e. Congressional Republicans') failure to convict Donald Trump in impeachment either time. Especially the second time when it was an obvious armed assault on Congress itself. This precedent means impeachment is basically dead in the water and the President is akin to an elected king who presides for a guaranteed 4 years subject only to the will of the voters.

But other than that, I echo the other comments that we generally need a President to carry out certain actions. It's the design our Founders envisioned.

Separation of powers.

But, why should executive branches place so much power in the hands of one person? Presidents sleep an average of 6 hours a night and age twice as fast as a healthy person. It's too much responsibility for one person, and it's not good for the President or the nation.

Um, how about no? Congress is good, but they shouldn't be in charge of everything. A president works as a diplomat and is important as a leader in emergencies.
