The controversy is whether or not the patients who were in nursing homes but became so sick with COVID-19 that they were sent to the hospital. Some 50-years ago, I used to compile similar statistics. When a patient is transferred from a nursing home to a hospital, their bed is reserved. They are listed as "Absent, Sick, In Hospital. If they die in the hospital, they are normally listed as a nursing home death. This keeps them from being reported as short-term hospitalizations, which may affect Medicare reimbursement rates. Some New York State bureaucrat got wind that President Pandemic was planning to use this data to prolong his public pissing contest with Cuomo. So, he changed where the deaths were listed in his report. The deaths were reported. They were listed as dying in the hospital, which is the truth. They were just in the wrong column for the bean counters, in a heavy-handed attempt by a bureaucrat to blunt criticism of a purely technical stat.

Finally, the CDC estimates that up to 62,000 people died from the regular flu in the season that ended in 2020. Wrong again, bucko!
