What is a smell that instantly takes you back to a memory?

I have several...

I have a bottle of hair tonic that my grandfather used. It's about 20 years old, but if I smell it I immediately feel like I'm in his presence again even after he's been passed away for 16 years.

The smell of Lysol immediately sickens me, as it reminds me of my childhood dog that died. One of my first real adult tasks was to help bury him, and Lysol was present at the time...the smell still turns my mind to sadness and feeling sick.

Airbag dust...only smelled that once but I hope I never have to again. I'd never mistake that smell for anything else, and it would remind me of the accident I was in when I was 18 years old.

Old car smell: any gearhead will know exactly what I mean by this, and they will appreciate it! One of the best smells in the world...forget new car smell, that's for amateurs.

Yes! We have some old fords at the farm. Definitely a good smell

Mechanic smell

I tell my wife all the time, if she would just dab on a little racing fuel she'd never need to spend any money ever again on perfume! Lol

When you get a good ol' whiff of that Kindergarten classroom smell and you just have a flipping flashback lol.

And what memory would that bring up for you? I love me some brisket...preferably smoked Texas style but Jewish brisket is delicious as well...makes for really good sammiches.

My family is ashkenazi jewish so brisket is in my blood. My grandma used to make it for my family a lot. The smell takes me back to those days. I prefer traditional brisket because it had a big role in my childhood but Texas style is good too. I bet that a long time ago some jewish people in Texas gave a brisket to a neighbor and they adapted it into Texas brisket. Brisket with some coleslaw and provolone, maybe some pickles. Best sammich you can get.

the smell of wet erasers. in elementary school i would put stuff in my water bottle and i put erasers in it often whenever i smell that smell it takes me back to the pain, depression and suicidal thoughts i had in elementary school
