That song isn't targeted towards children, and it's also listened to by people of different beliefs. Its also not a racist song. But I see what u mean

OK, so this is just my anecdotal experience, but when I was still in high school school a few years ago it was true: Every single kid in a large class of juniors listened to Cardi B religiously.

The fact is that she may not profess to make her music for kids, but a lot of kids love it and that is a serious problem.

You have a point, but 16-17 yo's are different from little kids from the ages of like 4-8. But kids younger than that do still listen to it. So your right.

Yes, I fully understand that it's not marketed towards youth, but if that's the case then don't bother censoring it and then giving it mainstream radio airplay. Keep it locked to her albums (I.E don't release it as a single), or something.

WAP wasn't written by an outspoken racist. And it wasn't targeted towards children.

Is WAP empowering or appropriate in any way?

I never said it was empowering. It's not appropriate for children. Dr Seuss was a massive racist and a lot of his books reflect that. We shouldn't expose young children to graphic sexual content or horrifyingly racist content

Cool, let’s get rid of both so everybody’s happy.

(That’s not sarcasm btw)

Then again by our own psychology as soon as something isn’t allowed people want it more. That’s why Dr Seuss sales have jumped just now. I myself think it will die off on its own. Honestly how often is Dr Seuss read in schools anymore?

that's a good point. It is read to kindergarteners all the time. I don't think that psychology works with schools buying books.

Possibly not. Also I wonder how many kindergartners pick up on the racist messages. I was read the books when I was just a wee lad and last I checked I don’t hate Asians but I can’t speak for all.
0 ups, 3y
I don't hate asians either but if someone learns the wrong message at a young age they might grow up with those messages if they aren't directly counteracted.

Please show where the books are racist.

well one image depicts asian people with slits for eyes and it says that they wear their eyes thin. The other shows people from Africa as blackface caricatures. you get the point.

Oh. Oh my. Sounds dreadful.

Were there any Italian plumbers with large moustaches? How about an Irishman with a four leaf clover and buckle shoes? Maybe a fat Scandi with braids and a horn helmet?

Meh. Nobody gives a crap about those stereotypes.

So we should continue showing it to children??

Noticing physical differences is nothing new and nothing scandalous. Oooh shocker - Asians have different eye shape! Culturally they use chopsticks! They wore silk coats that we like to jammies! I grew up in a time when these differences were acknowledged and celebrated. You aren't gonna breed that out of kids.
Keeping it in books gives an opportunity to control the discussion and have it at all. Taking it out only means they'll discuss it ignorantly behind your back.

My son asked an amputee about his "robot legs" back when he was four. I guess that makes me a monster somehow. The amputee thought it was hilarious and was all too happy to show his robot legs off. He was a Vietnam vet and a great guy I would have never met otherwise.

Now it's like no one is allowed to ever notice differences, and are supposed to self-administer shame for having a functional pair of eyes.

We've gone from "diversity is our strength" to "how dare you notice diversity?"
