The level of ignorance in this meme is outstanding. Congrats on being the dumbest person on this site.

So what? It would have been refined in American refineries creating income for American businesses and employees. The other option for Canada is to build a pipeline across Canada to the West Coast where it will be transported by ship, most likely to China for processing.

A few extra jobs at existing US refineries isn't worth the cost of constant leaks and spills from pipelines across our lands that US taxpayers would have to pay to clean up. Those businesses only make the stockholders wealthy, not the handful of extra employees paid to maintain the pipe.

If you are so against oil, then go join the Amish lifestyle. Walk everywhere you go, don’t drive in a vehicle. Don’t use electricity. Oil goes into plastics including the coating on electric wires in a Prius or Tesla and your home.

so your argument is, there's so much trash in my room, it makes no sense to clean it up, just move to another room or enjoy the filth.

your choice. electricity costs less than gas. solar is cheaper than coal.

The pipeline owners pay cleanup costs, not taxpayers. Most refineries the oil would be processed by are publicly traded companies owned by individuals and retirement funds.

Actually the cleanup fund for Keystone was never created because they wanted to push it onto taxpayers. Alaska cleanup cost has still not been paid by Exxon. The long term damage after the cleanup is over is never paid by any oil company or pipeline.

I thought we were talking about the XL pipeline not Alaska. FYI the Alaska Exxon spell prompted the legislation requiring the tax on oil to pay for spills.

Should get updated on the Alaska Exxon Valdez spill.

I don’t know what Trump has to do with where the oil going through the XL pipeline ends up. You start making sense along time ago

no. it's a simple question. trump didn't approve it. why?

You are saying Trump did not approve Keystone pipeline??

oil companies are required to pay a tax of eight-cents-per-gallon into the federal Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund, which in turn pays for the cleanup of the 54,000 barrels that leak each year from the 175,000 miles or so of pipelines that transport oil across the US.

Look at those numbers, I don’t think the problem is as big as you think it is.

so why didn't trump approve it? he had 4 years.

It's better to export oil than import it.

but if we're exporting canadian oil FOR them, how is it benefiting us?

It goes to US refineries and refined into gas and diesel for North American markets. Whatever is exported is better than importing from the Arabs.

Very little of that oil is used domestically. Most of it is exported.

We're already building a pipeline accross the Rockies (the Trans Mountain) to the BC coast for export and one up north to Kitimat to export LNG.

Out of curiosity, do you know what the oil sands are?

0 ups, 4y,

yes. if they are refined on site, they become spillable liquids when transported by pipeline.

electricity costs 50 cents for 50km. how much is gas? shouldn't canada pump hydro and convert to EVs? why hang on to oil so desperately? you have dirt cheap hydro that can be pumped for extra cycles downhill.
0 ups, 4y,

Never yet seen a train, a truck or a jet airliner powered by Hydro.

doesn't it make sense to use oil for things we need instead of things we don't like cars?
