I'm 52 and consider myself an X-er, not a boomer. I have no desire to grill.

I grew like 100lb of tomatoes last year, should be more this year. I bet you can't even grow corn!

You'd be wrong. I'm growing several tomato cultivars (including some cool Zapotec ruffled heirlooms), some rare agave from seed, and I've even hybridized Euphorbia. And I never use pesticides. I'm aiming for an eventual permaculture food forest, but I'm nowhere near that yet. Continued success in your growing!

Unfortunately my squash mostly withered in the sun and I only got 4 eggplants.

My zucchini last year did terribly. I either planned them too early or too late.

The potatoes and corn were so sweet right off the plant. I swear after 2 hours it wasn't as good. I gave the tomatoes and Corn piss for fertilizer every 2 weeks and otherwise just watered them. The chard thrived for months but unfortunately I hate chard. Gonna do bone and blood meal maybe kelp next time. Tryna figure out how to get epsom salts in my sprayer

lol electrolites. i just moved and no garden at all, have to start from scratch. my last place had apple three with five grafts, three producing grape vines and two blueberry bushes... put that stuff in the fridge pronto or it will dry out quick. Our soils good for potatoes and tall beans, the slugs like tomatoes too much but I had some success with hanging baskets. Gotta start a compost heap I guess now that spring is coming on.

Damn. I put in 4 apple trees and some blueberry bushes, but it is gonna be a long time until the trees fruit and a few years before the berries yield anything significant. I dunno if I will even still be living here. 5 grafts on one tree. that's amazing. One of my uncles has a plum apricot nectarine tree, but he has lived in the same house 2 decades. I was able to manage my slugs with bone and blood meal, but in some places they aren't deterred by it anymore. Little bowls of beer inset into the ground work but you have to change the beer a lot. For a while I was taking a midnight trip out to the garden with a bottle, but that's a numbers game I couldn't win.

My thought on the sweetness of the potatoes was that they metabolized their latent glucose almost immediately after being picked, but right out of the field and into a pot of water then my mouth, they were shockingly sweet. I could eat them unseasoned they were so tasty.

Some folk crush egg shells and scatter around to keep slugs out, dunno for sure if it works, I just go patrol and fling them away. Only takes about 5 years for apple to start producing, you got to keep it pruned and the flowers are sensitive in the spring and can die in cold weather. I bought it from a hardware store (Canadian Tire) lol and had to baby it a while. I made cider the first good year, nice! I basically turned a small patch of hard pack ground behind the townhouse into nice soil by digging compost holes all over and adding a bale or two of peat moss every year and just let stuff grow. Raspberries too. Nice jungle...

As an amateur tomato grower, I found it amusing.

Born in 65, I’m generation not given a name and I like it that way. Boomers supposedly end at 64. Not sure when gen-x started.

It doesn't really matter, but I find jokes about boomers and my own generation funny rather than offensive. Millennials and Z-ers get a bad rap, imho.

Yep that seems like the year starting 'Generation X', although seemingly arbitrary the term was coined by Douglas Coupland in the book of the same name, it refers to disaffected youth growing up in the shadow of the boomers, (the generation from vets returning from WWII)

;) same but I am the bbq king. Maybe that meme is old, there is no way boomers include 45 year olds! The war ended what 75 years ago?

As someone in that age group, I find it mildly offensive. But as a life long liberal, I get it. I am definitely grouchier as I age and actual enjoy wallowing in it. But I generally reserve it for telemarketers ;)
