The turbines in Minnesota are working fine. And we're far colder than Texas.

The former vice president’s global warming activism has helped increase his net worth from $700,000 in 2000 to an estimated net worth of $172.5 million by 2015. Gore and the former chief of Goldman Sachs Asset Management made nearly $218 million in profits between 2008 and 2011 from a carbon trading company they co-founded. By 2008, Gore was able to put a whopping $35 million into hedge funds and other investments.

ERCOT is a 501(c)4 comprised of "market experts" who hail from Maine, Michigan, and Cali.

A board of unelected unaccountable decision makers with no skin in the game.

Deregulation isn't the root cause. Deep state corruption and unaccountable big government is.

tl;dr if you can't swim that deep - your article proves my point that the problem is the ERCOT cronies not deregulation or the Texas energy market. Thanks!

The "cronies" could not have pulled the bullshit if the regulations were still there.

Ha. That's rich. They absolutely would have and would have had law to hide behind to justify it and cover their asses.

I know this is some super complicated stuff here, so I'll go slow. Maybe break out some puppets or something. Here we go.

ERCOT is an advisory board who was put in charge of deciding who did and did not continue to receive power this past week.

No one on the ERCOT board are elected officials. If I am unhappy with their distribution of the public utility (and I am), I cannot vote them out.

ERCOT is an established 501(c)4...stay with me. Don't let the fancy numbers lose you. This particular entity is classified as a non-charity non-profit. They are permitted to endorse specific political candidates and engage in lobbying. And boy do they.

Donations to them are not tax exempt. The majority of they money they receive is from "partner cities" and other municipal entities that pay to play. Abeliene is NOT a partner city and -shocker- the entire city went dark. All of it.

The board of ERCOT is somewhere around 18 people. They are self proclaimed "market experts in the energy sector." Who chooses them? Why, themselves! Who are they? Hard to say now - they have taken the names of the full board down off the website. These folks aren't volunteers. The total salary of the entire board was 4MM last year.

My wife looked some of them up earlier when they were still listed - we had some time on our hands and the phone hadn't died yet. Quite a few of them are non-Texans. Curious that they are "experts" in the unique market of Texas energy but hail from Maine. Are there smart people in Maine? Probably. Are there smart people with a better finger on the pulse of the Texan energy market AND also has a vested interest in keeping it functional because they live here? Darn tootin'.

So ERCOT - a bunch of unelected, self appointed people have become The Decider of who continues to get electricity once supply crashes by 40%. So yeah. The problem here isn't just "ooooh deregulation, this needs MOAR GUBMINT." This isn't even "LOL fossil fuelz." This is cronyism. This is corruption. And between the TX Dems of Beto and Davis ilk, and the TX RINOs of the Bush and Perry circles, there is corruption aplenty.

The solution is to clear out the corrupt villans. To play political football with turbines or solar panel subsidies is a distraction. Turbine subsidies shpuld absolutely be scrutinized later though.

You make it to the end? Awesome. Gold star.

You arguing my point, utilities, like healthcare and education, should not be private enterprise... back in the Enron days, they f**ked us over in California.

Swing and a miss. The energy generators were not the main issue. They were part of the failure but not all of it. The main failure was with the pseudo-governmental Deep State ERCOT who decided to cut users instead of buying more energy from outside sources (like we did in 2011).

More government solves none of this.

And God, hasn't Government done a stellar job with public education. That's why private schools struggle to stay afloat and nobody homeschools...wait.

Sorry but schools in most states are fine, not in TX, or Alabama, or NV or most any red state. Its a been a while for me for sure, but I went to school in NY until 9th grade. Had average grades, then my folks dragged me kicking and screaming with them to Texas..... it was sad how far behind they were. I was basically a first year college student by comparison..

Massachusetts is the top state for education. It’s followed by New Jersey, Florida, Washington and New Hampshire to round out the top five. Seven of the 10 states with the best education systems also rank among the top 10 Best States overall.

So you're done trying to convince me that I should be funding ERCOT with both my power bill and my property taxes now?
