Some of thinner skin choose not to recognize them when they see them, if the alternative is to question crazy behaviors that don't deserve defense.

Satire, for example, entails the exaggeration of a foible so it can be more easily recognized.

Some people get jokes. Those of mediocre intelligence deliberately pretend not to recognize them, rather than acknowledge a discomforting implicit truth.
