It's because the biggest businesses have bribed politicians on both sides to allow them to overcharge and underpay for their products in order to make record profits without any limits.And then screwing over the poor by imposing credit checks on people in order to get a good job, leaving them little option but to work several low paying jobs to make ends meet.
You may think that raising the minimum wage will be a solution, but that will do nothing to help and will only hurt middle and lower class people in the long run as long as no limits are imposed on big business. Their costs will double, so they will use that excuse to charge you triple or more, making even more profit. Big business wins, you lose.
