I think slavery is wrong, but I also think it's wrong to completely discredit them because of it. They did lay the base for this great nation after all and Thomas Jefferson did attempt to abolish it.

There's a book you should read by Ron Chernow called, "Washington".

Until you have I recommend you not judge Washington purely off the fact that he owned slaves (whom he freed, you should know).

Washington freed all of his slaves. Please read that book. It is huge, but I promise you it will change your perspective entirely on Washington.

Obviously he did bad things. We ALL have done bad things. We celebrate him not because he owned slaves, but because he led us during our rebellion and was the first President, playing a critical role of stability and leadership for a nation that was taking its first steps.
