Yes, exactly. That weird ending in '2001: A Space Odyssey' was classic.

I had seen the movie many times on TV, VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray, but I finally saw it properly on an IMAX screen in January or February 2018 just before COVID-19 was in full swing turning the world upside down.

The effects still hold up today even if the fashions of the characters are very much stuck in 1968 and the score is iconic and amazing. I also have the original Alex North score as reconducted by the late Jerry Goldsmith, but frankly, Stanley Kubrick's choice of various classical music was an excellent decision.

I always thought that was a great story about how most of that, including the classic use of Also Sprach Zarathustra, started as the placeholder score, and they liked it better. May have to check into the Alex North version some day.

Think I saw it as a kid on the big screen, though not IMAX, that would be cool as heck.

Yes, Alex North reused part of his rejected '2001: A Space Odyssey' score later in the movie 'Dragonslayer' as part of that movie's main title. Why let a score go to waste?

After all, Ennio Morricone used scores initially rejected by Sergio Leone for one spaghetti western movie later on in another Sergio Leone spaghetti western movie. :)
