Of course not.. he's racist.
;P

No tbh I don't.. but it's not because I "cancelled" him.

I find it hilarious how people cry about twain. when's the last time I heard a black person complaining over twain? never. just the white people.

hmm he's good. He wrote much much more than Tom Sawer and Huck Fin.... did you know he wrote an amazing biography of Joan D' Arc? one of the best I've read (and thats a lot lol) It was his life work, but so few know about it.

P.S I know His 3rd great grandson Ryan (also is a theatre professor at my college)

Eh.. maybe so maybe no.. Mark Twain died nearly a century ago and I don't necessarily hear about everything "cancelled" but ya.. if it was a thing you probably wouldn't need to look far.

As far as biographies or fiction vs non-fiction I guess I'm just more of a fan of stories about actual history and people.. the authenticity.. idk.

Fair enough

hmm one can learn a lot from fiction such as sir Thomas moor's "utopia" and Orwell's "animal farm" and "1984" to name a few. But yes I agree to an extent; biographies are great, but you have to take into mind the possible view points and personal opinions of the author, whereas in fiction, the authors views are often very plain. In short, every author picks and choses what he will include in the book, and how he will portray the person in question (I can geek out on this, bear with me). Do you like to read historical documents as well? I find the two go together quite like a burger and fries (thats what I had for lunch today 🤣).

as you can see, I love discussing books

I almost included a disclaimer in my last comment that I wasn't necessarily trying to knock fiction... I'm aware there's plenty that can be learned and there's obviously more artistic /creative possibility there. It's just idk.. I guess somehow stories hit different when I have the impression they're true or based in truth. Somehow that bleeds into comedy as well... A joke just seems funnier to me personally if it's true or based in truth. For example I thought I had remembered something referencing racism from the Mark Twain prize ceremony for Dave Chappelle a few years back. I didn't find it, however I did stumble across a clip of Neal Brennan talking about Dave and man.. I just found that seriously funny. If I had thought that his story was fiction or not based in truth it seems somehow it wouldn't be the same.. Idk. Maybe my imagination is just lacking..
:L

I might be as big a fan of comedy as you are of books.

I also have never seen/heard a black person complaining about Twain. But to be fair, I haven't really been looking.

His life's work was about Joan of Arc?..... so he racist and a simp then? ;P No that's cool. I would probably be more inclined to read that than his fiction works tbh.

Whaaaa? Wow. That's pretty cool. Hey maybe he could verify your meme.
:P

lol if it were a huge problem, one wouldn't have to look. now, did you actually read something racist of his, or is this hearsay? cause I haven't, but I haven't finished either of his mot well known works.

yes it was lol. it was a beautifully written book for sure. btw, you don't strike be as a huge reader of biographies... why not fiction?

maybe lol, but I aint to concerned with it
