In physics sound is only the vibration of stuff. Vibrations of a kind that our ears can pick up and our brain translates as sound. The vibrations themselves will always take place and that is the actual sound, whether or not there are any ears to pick the vibrations up or not. The energy that is the sound will eventually be absorbed otherwise and cause some effects, since energy cannot be created, nor can it be destroyed.
Long scientific story short... YES! It does make sound.
Basically it's the same question as, if I turn on a lamp but there is nobody to see it, does it still give light? Well, yeah, of course it does.
Then again, if a rock is on a place nobody can see it, the rock is also still there.
