When people say the Jan. 6 rally/protest/riot was "planned" on these alt-right websites, they don't mean the moderators themselves planned it.

They mean the moderators allowed it to be planned.

Above I posted a thread by a popular Gab user hyping the Jan. 6 date and suggesting it would be significant in helping Trump retain the presidency, which was a theme of Trump's Jan. 6 rally speech and a motive of the rioters.

I am not a 24/7 Gab lurker, but it stands to reason there were other posts like it.

Gab at the very least turned a blind eye to all this activity.

tl;dr websites are ultimately responsible for the content that appears on their sites.
