That is very true. However, we're looking at two different causes.
The riots in the summer were the result of a clear, unmistakeable use of excessive force resulting in the slow death of an American, regardless of criminal background. The problem is, this issue had been going on for years. It's never stopped. Racism still exists.
Now true, while rioting is not the way, one can make an attempt to understand the reason. The Floyd riots were unacceptable. With support from findings from the FBI, there is speculation that the riots in this time were instigated by the right-wing extremists. But, that's not the point. The point was the message behind the protests/riots for George Floyd. Social justice. Unfortunately, this concept has become a buzzword with a negative connotation concocted by the right to represent extreme feminism and LGBTQ activists who give the concept a bad name. People were tired of seeing other people suffer police brutality and excessive force.
This riot, this attack on the heart of our government was not for social justice. It was for politically perceived justice that is the subject of debate and discussion. The fact is that all legal options have been exhausted in proving there was any voter fraud. Having gone through the supreme courts of various states and the SCOTUS itself, there was no reason to believe that Biden would not be inaugurated, following the news that Georgia's Senatorial representation had been completely flipped to Democrat seats. Democrats had now achieved complete victory in the house, the presidency, and the Senate. (There hasn't been a President to lose all three points of contention since the early 20th century.) Thus "Stop the Steal" was displayed by many protesters and rioters. No one's lives were in danger by the cause represented. Only a shift in power and who makes the policies.
Does this summation of information invalidate one over the other? Objectively? No. Everyone has a different moral compass. Personally, I value the cause for human life and am more lenient to those who champion the cause.
Violence in support of political power? Yeah... I'm gonna have to give that a hard pass.
