Seriously I can't believe the comments on here.
How poor is someones reading comprehension when they don't work out that the deaths by drug overdose is refering to the city of san fran in relation to their deaths from covid. It's Unbelievable how much time waisted replying for one persons butt hurt about the rest of the detail. Don't waste your time Garnet and there's nothing to apologise for it's not your butt that is inflamed.

Drug overdoses in San Francisco exceeds 300,000 per year? I don't think you got that even close to right.

Actually, I did: https://www.google.com/amp/s/thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/531269-overdose-deaths-outnumber-covid-19-deaths-more-than-3-to-1-in-san%3famp

Well, then that source lied to you. I just looked it up and annual overdose deaths in San Francisco is about 621.

And that number was a record high! It's usually LOWER than that.

It's not even a thousand. What utter nonsense - you have been had.

This other news source from abc news says covid deaths in San Francisco are 173 while the overdose deaths are 621: https://www.google.com/amp/s/abcnews.go.com/amp/Health/wireStory/overdose-deaths-outpace-covid-19-deaths-san-francisco-74823530 so in San Francisco specifically the overdose deaths in that area actually do outnumber the covid deaths:

That's amazing. Only 173 in all of San Francisco? The newspapers should be asking what San Francisco is doing well that everybody else is missing.

Your meme implied something else and you know it.

I didn't mean to imply that San Francisco's overdose deaths outnumber the covid deaths, I actually did mean to say that the overdose deaths in the city specifically outnumber the covid deaths, I'm sorry if you perceived my meme that way

My perception isn't the problem. It just says "liberals" in big letters. Not "San Francisco politicians" which is what you bait and switched to later on.

Well the politicians of that city are liberal and they refuse to solve an ongoing problem of their city so I wouldn't call it "baiting" if it's the truth

No. You're saying "refused to solve" when you should be saying "haven't yet become the first city to solve". NOBODY has built a city that size without drug consumption being an issue. To say that they're not even trying is all you - no truth to it at all.

What city has a six figure death toll?

In a one dimensional world you are correct. Unfortunately, depression, drug / alcohol abuse, suicide and poverty all kill also. Even cigarettes and obesity, which combined account for almost one third of annual US deaths, are on a frightening trajectory. We will see the fruits of those seeds in the coming months and I believe they will be horrific.

I do believe you are coming from a good hearted perspective. I caution you to consider the unintended consequences of what you are supporting. I sincerely wish you well.

No you don't wish me well - if you're belittling a pandemic, you're a danger to me and everyone close to me. There's nothing wellwishing about it.

Have you been to SF in the past year or two? Almost 50% of the US homeless are in California. SF was always one of my favorite cities. The drug problem is out of control. Many large international cities have "solved" their drug problem although most are in totalitarian countries. I have personally witnessed several dozen people injecting drugs in broad daylight in SF, twice with police officers nearby. I have never seen this anywhere else although I have not been to Portland or Seattle for a few years.

https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/jimdalrympleii/public-drug-use-san-francisco

In addition to the 600+ deaths from overdose there have been 3000 others saved by Narcan. Very few cities in the world are dealing with a drug crisis that rivals SF.

Currently the city is completely shut down. People are fleeing in record numbers. Downtown rents are down by as much as 50% just this year. It will be interesting to see if you still feel they have handled the pandemic well when we see the condition of the city in summer 2021.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

And yet, their pandemic deaths are tiny compared to the 5-digit and 6-digit death tolls in most other big cities.

So they're doing something right. But because they haven't solved homelessness and drug abuse, let's learn nothing from it.

Ok. I see what's going on here.

Your meme made it sound like more people die of drug overdoses in San Francisco than they did across the country of COVID.

What the news is saying is that IN SAN FRANCISCO ALONE, they IN PARTICULAR have had fewer deaths of COVID than they have of drug overdoses. That's not what your meme suggested at all. If we could all do what San Francisco is doing about COVID, the pandemic would be solved, and the San Francisco could have a discussion about its drug problem.

Unfortunately San Francisco's overdose and homelessness problem was plaguing the city a long time before covid and the city still doesn't do anything to solve that ongoing problem so it really makes me question the integrity of the politicians that run the city.

I'm sure it does bother you that San Francisco isn't literally the first city in the world to solve homelessness.

Because people like you keep using that as an excuse to look past the things that San Francisco DOES do well. Like pandemics, for example.
