Career politicians are almost exclusively scum. And people like AOC that say that this is a problem, but now that she's one of them she of course will never support efforts to impose strict term limits, are the worst of the worst. Total f**king hypocrites. And the pathetic MSM fawns over her and all of the incredibly stupid/ignorant things that come out of her humongous mouth. The Nancy Pelosis, Maxine Waters, Mitch McConnells, etc, etc etc are what makes our government inefficient and wasteful.

We have career doctors, nurses, plumbers, engineers, architects, lawyers, electricians, pilots, professors — we recognize experience and training in the field grant better results.

Why are career politicians inherently suspect?

I would submit that Trump’s presidency has been a flippin’ disaster, pardon my French, and a lot of it is because he had no prior political experience.

That said, experience doesn’t necessarily grant wisdom, either. But it usually means the person won’t screw things up completely.

I suppose the question should have been how would one plan to get rid of lobbying and the same ignorant politicians that keep getting re-elected just because of party affiliation

So one thing that comes to mind is ending gerrymandering — or at least taking it out of the hands of the politicians themselves. Make House districts subject to being drawn by an independent committee. Whenever this is done, the results are fairer.

The way things are now, politicians draw the maps and invariably draw them so their own districts are secure. As a result, few House races in this country are truly competitive.

Sometimes long-term House politicians are replaced anyway when they get “primaried,” but it’s rare. Incumbency provides a huge advantage.

That’s just the House of Representatives but it’s a start.

For politicians, rather than lifetime term limits I'd support an only one term in a row limit. That, and recalls should be much easier. They should also apply to federal officials, like Senators, Supreme Court Justices, and Presidents.

Increased government transparancy would be more effective at eliminating corruption, as well as forcing legislators to abide by the same laws they apply to others.

Also, we need a multi-party (or no party) system rather than a two-party winner-take-all system, so more people are represented and parties have to compromise and build coalitions.

The implementation of a multi-party system was going to be my next post.

I think that we should certainly pay the super rich ones much less. How do we get rid of them? Vote! Or revolt, but voting is very much preferred because revolutions are often very messy and involve lots of death and should really only be a last resort in a civilized society.

I don't care what side you're on, you shouldn't be going into politics for the money or power. Our elected officials are there to represent US, not get a paycheck and stay in power.

Term limits. I'd say 2 or 3 terms for Senate, and 8 to 10 terms for House. We've already got a 2 term limit on President, so why not extend that down?

A big part in fixing it is to have people willing to stand up and take them to the primary! Fix the problem ourselves instead of perpetually voting for the same person over and over again while they do NOTHING.
