The never ending cycle of reparations for the distant past. | And after we make all white people pay reparations for slavery, we're going after reparations from North American Indigenous People for the death of millions of people worldwide by introducing the world to tobacco. Hey wait a minute! What about the South American Indigenous people who introduced the world to coca? We already paid reparations after we toasted Custer. | image tagged in sjw cuck, indian chief | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

Fought for the Union but supported slavery.

I've read a number of histories about his Presidential ambitions. Made some bad decisions for good press and it cost him.

Class action suits against tobacco companies? | image tagged in yeah pretty much confession bear deep-fried 2 | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Well except you have the wrong target

The tobacco industry has gotten away with murder, basically, only having to pay a teeny tiny fraction of the cost their products have inflicted in terms of human loss of life and medical bills

Let’s have some proper class action suits against them the same way asbestos companies were made to pay

Kind of like the Slavery Reparations hitting the wrong target? The millions of people who had nothing to do with enslaving 3 million people ("owned" by around 350,000 slave owners), and paying millions of people who were never slaves?
This is satire used to humorously point out the absurdity of the whole concept of reparations. Using identical justice reasoning the Indians need to PAY!!! PAY I SAY! For their crimes against humanity, then we can turn around and pay them for stealing the land they said no man owned, then we can make all the other guilty people pay for the crimes of the Neaderthal colonialists for creating the missing link and............... do you see the rich irony? When does it stop and reason (or science since that is the source of all truth these days) take over?
There was a HUGE class action suit where tobacco companies paid the states billions of dollars which the states were supposed to use to create smoking cessation programs.
Looks like you just flew into the ground again. Oh! Guess that was to be expected.

40 acres and a mule | image tagged in 40 acres and a mule | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Reparations aren't about who owes what, but what is owed.

There's a huge amount of value in the uncompensated labor provided by slaves for which they never received wages.

Wise people at the time of the Civil War realized they needed some property ("40 acres and a mule") to help secure their new citizenship rights and have some amount of standing in life. And indeed, the U.S. federal government did subsequently distribute a lot of land for free (Homestead Act, etc.), but not in any way that systematically compensated ex-slaves specifically.

The failure to economically enfranchise ex-slaves facilitated the end of Reconstruction and helped lead to 100 years of Jim Crow.

The debt doesn't go away because we never paid it. It's an economically quantifiable thing that is owed to the descendants of slaves and will forever be owed until we pay it.

You clearly didn't read. There were 350,000 slave owners owning 3 million slaves according to the
1860 census
As for the debt never being paid, one Union soldier died to free 12 slaves. Not paid enough? Millions were crippled and maimed, my great-great Grandfather was one of them. He could not farm after the war and lost everything. When my father was born, my grandfather could not afford a saddle, so he wore two pairs of pants when he rode his mule to the hospital. He took the outer pair off and folded them in front of the hitching post, then went in to the hospital to see my grandmother who was in a coma for 2 weeks from toxemia- in 1935. What do you think of the failure to economically enfranchise Union soldiers who lost everything to end slavery. Maybe I should add my great-great grandfather was drafted in the Confederate Army and at the risk of a death penalty deserted to the Union side to fight to end slavery.
Democrats led to 100 years of Jim Crow. Democrats intimidated with the Ku Klux Klan.
When you die, your credit card debt goes away if you don't have an estate to pay it off. So if the individuals descended from slaves and became a millionaires, do they have to give it all back?
The people who owe the debt are all dead. The people who are owed the debt are all dead. Over 150 years have passed. It's time to stop agitating over something that can never be changed and move on, like my ancestors did. It's tough for many descendants of former slaves because of DEMOCRAT policies. Remember LBJ (D-TX) saying his welfare state would have the n...... er, uh....descendants of former slave voting DEMOCRAT for 100 years?
