Your stats do not appear to be correct. Oil industry has about 10 million jobs, while solar seems to have about 250k jobs. https://www.thesolarfoundation.org/national/

The statement 'it's coming whether we like it of not', is so milquetoast. Why don't they just say that about climate change, in general (after all, it would be more true; since climate is going to change whether we like it or not)?
From a physics standpoint (certainly with current technology), solar cannot directly compete with fossil fuel.
Solar derives energy in real-time. In other words, it can only convert solar energy as it's coming.
In contrast, fossil fuel, IS essentially a STORAGE of SOLAR energy over the course of MILLIONS OF YEARS. So, yes, fossil fuel is derived from solar, since plants that grew millions of years ago took solar energy and stored it chemically after they became fossilized. Animals that ate the plants, and became fossilized, also ultimately stored that solar energy.
Ultimately, ALL energy of the Earth comes from the Sun. This includes wind power (due to the Sun's heat energy on the atmosphere). Tidal power mostly comes from the Moon, but ultimately the Sun is by far the dominant source. You could argue that Geo-thermal power comes from the Earth, but without the Sun, that energy would have long since burnt out (and, if the Earth came from the Sun anyway?...).
