That is not what happened at all.

Lanka laid out a sloppy "bet" about proving whether the virus exists. When he was given clear evidence of its existence, he claimed that the evidence didn't "meet the contest rules".

What were the rules? Lanka said that he had to be presented with ONE study that proved the existence of measles. Barden presented him with many studies that measles exists.

The lower court ruled in favor of Barden.

Lanka appealed to a higher court on a point of law- specifically that Barden had presented him with several studies instead of just one study- as the contest rules specified.

The German appeals court agreed, Barden did present many cases that measles exists and not just one. And ordered that Lanka didn't have to pay.

NOT that measles didn't exist.

They didn't rule that at all.

They ruled that Barden provided many cases proving the existence of measles when the contest only called for ONE.

That's what happened.
