Just after sundown Mississippi River

Nighttime + IPhone 6 with flash + Delaware bay = total garbage

I'm going to guess it was foggy. Force flash off for landscapes and see what you get.

No it was just dark

Alright. Flash forces a short exposure because the camera is expecting things to be lit by the flash. But when things are too far away like in a landscape the flash doesn't help at all. Try no flash and see what happens.

Yeah but I’ll have to go all the way back to the next town (it’s still a ten mile drive) and wait for it to get dark and it’s a school night.
