I assume by “assholes” you refer to the cops that killed unarmed black men, which the number is 14 out of 693,000 officers. I don’t think we need much restructuring of the entire police force other than removing those officers when they violate a decent use of force.

Bingo!

Verbal harassment leads to escalation. So, when cops do that, it's also a form of police brutality. If a police officer goes around provoking citizens, much like what you saw in the videos above, and the citizens respond violently; the officer now has full opportunity to physically attack the citizen. Which is still a form of police brutality because the officer provoked the citizen.

So you think enough police are acting with brutality to agree that they are just as bad as the confederate rebels fighting to keep slavery?

They are the number one inductors of the continued US slave trade. Take a look at the 13th amendment closely.

“Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, EXCEPT AS A PUNISHMENT FOR CRIME WEREOF THE PARTY SHALL HAVE BEEN DULY CONVICTED, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”

Do I think all police officers know this? No. Do I think all police purposely “recruit” slaves? No. Do I think the police are part of a broken justice system? Yes. Do I think police are the central reason why our justice system is broken? Absolutely.

Our prisons do nothing to rehabilitate those who commit crime or behave in a criminal manner. They are simply there to house potentially cheap labor. Nothing more.
[deleted]
0 ups, 4y
Rehabilitating felons is a great way to piss away vast amounts of money. The majority of felons are locked up for violent crimes. There are FEW cases where a convicted murderer, assaulter, rapist or whatever turns their life around. However the successful rehabilitation rate is higher for non violent crimes so if you’re in favor of spending the money on those, go right ahead.
[deleted]

Oh and by the way, prisons DO already have educational programs, community service programs and others. Do your research.

I’m very sorry to disillusion you but...

The police are not here to protect you.

They are here to scare you into not being a slave.

Because the 13th amendment loophole still doesn’t legalize the horrific punishments that made slavery inhumane.
[deleted]
0 ups, 4y
Why not for the rest of their life for serious crimes? There is no reason for a serial killer to ever be released.
0 ups, 4y
You’re right. In some cases, prison is worse.
[deleted]

Absolutely false. I’m guessing everything you know about the police is what Blm tells you.
0 ups, 4y
Ask any lawyer with their salt.

Heck, ask any cop with no political ambitions.

And ask yourself this very important question.

If slavery was evil, and our justice system can potentially lock up innocent people due to a mistake, then why does the 13th amendment still allow a loophole to allow slavery to exist from 19th century lawyers turned politicians?

Because slavery remained. That was the true compromise of the Civil War.
[deleted]

But also remember that innocent people being locked up doesn’t happen as often as you think. Most pf the time this for, of “slavery” provides services that aren’t very marketable for free. It serves as felon’s way of paying back in some sense for their crimes.
0 ups, 4y
You seem awfully defensive on this.

A felon should pay for their crimes.

But not for the rest of their life.

Abuse? Last year a total of 14 unarmed black men were killed by police, 10 of which had already acted violently or resisted arrest. Why are 81,000 (11%) of almost 700,000 police officers black? Blm protests on the other hand have burned black owned businesses in city after city, plus ended more than 100 black lives.
0 ups, 4y
You should support your claim of "14 black men were killed" and "100's of black lives" cause that kinda sounds like a number you either 1) pulled out of your ass or B) saw on Parler and think is true but actually isn't.

1 up, 4y
show me some more "abuse" also they are not even close to being the same, a black man grabbing for a gun a knife or a police officers weapon is not the same as buying and putting human beings to work for no money while whipping them if they dont do the smallest of things

The point is the left is trying to connect police and abuse with the confederacy and slavery, but I’m drawing the distinction that the police are NOT the same as the rebels like the meme says.
0 ups, 4y
even if a cop is abusive its not slavery

Slavery and enslavement are the state and condition of being a slave, who is someone forbidden to quit their service for another person and is treated like property. Slavery relies heavily on the enslaved person being intimidated either by the threat of violence or some other method of abuse.
