It's not just about wearing masks. It's about wearing them right. It's social distancing. It's not gathering in large groups. It's doing all of these things together and staying diligitent and consistent in their application.
Name calling, short sightedness, incomplete consideration of available data and facts. Your argument is weak.

So true. It's about making the necessary effort. But some people are just selfish. And they're dragging everybody else down.

Pretending a theory proven in a close lab is transferable to real world results is the weak thing. Do you work 8 hours a day? Do you never touch your mask? Do you change your mask three times a day? It's untenable in our society to prevent flus and staying indoors will only exacerbate the problem.

Your reply still misses the point. Masks are not 100%, noone said they were. But that, in conjunction with the other things I mentioned, being done consistently by everyone, would help mitigate the transmission rates.
There are soooo many people not following the guidelines all over the country. And in MN we managed to avoid the spike until recently. Travel, gatherings, not distancing and people getting lazy has caused everything to escalate.

And, as if it should need to be said, its not the flu.

BUT! All arguments aside, since you disagree so vehemently, what would you suggest people do?

Business as usual for anyone under 60. Protect the elderly in nursing homes where 80 percent of the deaths happened in the first few months. Institute a UBI for those over 60 or the imunnilogically weak. Call it a "stimulus". Pay for it with land or vat tax. Shut down if necessary but no half measure like last time.

I heard what your saying, but how would no measures to reduce transmission among people under 60 help? The more the general population gets it, it spreads it faster and wider. Then being infected becomes the status quo and stresses health care even more than now. Plus there's no hard evidence I've seen/heard/read saying people who get sick don't get it again, so it would likely be a feedback loop of people getting sick until a vaccine is released.

In your scenario I see no feasible way to protect people 60+ or those in nursing homes either. Not that there was, or is now. The more people who have it compounds the likelihood the folks we are trying to protect will get it.

Capitalism would be stronger yes but the healthcare system would be much most extended than it is even today. And those at risk would be at a higher risk because of the amount of sick peeps running around.

The rate is skyrocketing because people haven't been complying.
