Homophobia is not something that religion teaches, at least not any religion I'm familiar with. I am a Christian, and the Bible says that homosexuality among other things is a sin. But it does not say to hate people who live that way. Homophobia is a behavior taught and learned by man. I personally don't approve of homosexuality, but I'm not going around preaching hate about it and anyone that lives that way still has my respect as a human being as long as they respect me, but that goes for anyone.

Honestly I think marriage should not be of any concern of the government period. At no point in the Bible does it say that someone has to say "by the power vested in me by the state of XXX" in order to be married, that is something that man came up with.

I would share my concerns with them from my religious convictions, I would continue to love them, and I would expect that they remain respectful of my beliefs concerning their lifestyle. If I am not to judge someone by their choices, then neither should I be judged for mine.

Well, somewhat to my comment above, we are not to be judges of any man or woman. From a Christian standpoint, only God can judge a person's character. Our only command is to love our neighbors as ourselves, and that is not a command that comes with stipulations like "only if they're heterosexual".
