many people say that websites banning hate speech is censorship. what do you think?

What do you think about websites moderating Neo-Nazi content, at the very least?

The danger is that these ideas don’t even have to be persuasive in order to influence people.

They succeed when allowed through sheer repetition, and because there are dummies out there who will believe anything.

neo-nazism is not good, but that's why ppl need 2 be educated. There are many americans out there today (believe it or not) that don't even know who adolf hitler was. Some of them consider themselves neo-nazis. I don't say we should ban it from the internet, I think we should show our ppl why it's a bullcrap system & how many ppl were killed b/c of it's discrimination.

Yes, there really are people that stupid/ignorant/uneducated and it's utterly sad. Those people should not be allowed to vote, or breath air, for that matter.

I don't support double standards and slippery slopes that lead to less freedom. What you are proposing is a double standard, or at the very least, a road to a slippery slope. Give someone an inch and they will take ten yards, and you know what that means - first down and 10! They get more shots at restricting speech and will continue to take more and more inches/yards until you revert to allowing all speech to be free. You have to be an absolutist to make policies/laws like the 1st amendment to work as designed.

yeah, but moderation of a site isn't censorship. people have tried making sites that allow hate speech, and it hasn't gone very well, just look at 4chan or any of the other sites ending with "chan".

No. Lies about other groups that can be used to justify violence should be censored.

Unfortunately both censorship and freedom of speech are slippery slopes.

What I think should happen -- and what is actually happening -- is fake news, anti-science propaganda, bigotry, conspiracy theories, and other things you might consider to fall under the umbrella of "hate speech" are being deplatformed by the big social media players (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.), and migrating to alternative platforms (4Chan, 8kun, Gab, etc.) that employ minimal or no moderation.

ImgFlip falls somewhere in the middle, IMO, with content moderation of the very most toxic/violent political speech (like Neo-Nazism) but pretty permissive otherwise.

At some point the government might step in with anti-trust measures and decide some of these issues. It's an extremely vital topic in this day and age.

Nope. I think all who do it online or offline should be simultaneously hung and burned on the spot. Maybe it'll change their minds.
