For Covid-19, Infection Fatality Rate (IFR) is #deaths / all infections, including asymptotic. Keep in mind that at least 50% of infections are asymptomatic.

Actually, for deaths, the math is not so simple.

I confess..I'm not a mathematician, Virologist or a epidemiologist..

I do enjoy my freedom as a sovereign citizen of this planet though, which is what I'm mostly concerned about.

I am interested in hearing your view though..
Would you care to share??😊

The mortality rate changes for everyone. To simply apply a flat mortality rate to the virus for everyone is a dangerous fallacy as it misleads the reader to it's lethality.
There are various factors when considering the risk for a severe case of COVID and the potential for death.

For example (according to worldometers.info)
45-64 years old share 22.4% of the share of total deaths thus far (15,230 as of May 13, 2020 in this data set)
65-74 years old, the amount increases to 24.9%.

Looking at the age 18-44 bracket is a little concerning.
Their share, 601 deaths 476 deaths had confirmed underlying conditions which enabled the virus to be more effective in killing the patient. The patients are not specified in whether the underlying conditions were the result of their death, or COVID itself. That said, it is certain that these conditions exacerbated the issue. For example, Asthma is a condition which would accelerate the progress of COVID and act as a catalyst making it more difficult to treat due to the inflammation of the bronchioles.
The issue with COVID is that it causes NCIP (Novel Corona-virus Infected Pneumonia) in which the cells and airsacs in your lungs are attacked, inflamed and filled with pus. So you can imagine, one who has asthma, is in for some serious trouble as this risk of asthma increases the risk for a case of COVID to become severe. In these cases, usually both lungs are attacked and a ventilator will be required.
It is also worth noting that 1:13 people in the US have asthma or 25 million Americans. For these folks, it's almost a death sentence.
Other high risk factors of COVID that pose such unique and worrying scenarios are:
Cancer
Chronic kidney disease
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies
Immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant
Obesity (body mass index [BMI] of 30 kg/m2 or higher but < 40 kg/m2)
Severe Obesity (BMI ≥ 40 kg/m2)
Sickle cell disease
Smoking
Type 2 diabetes mellitus
Asthma (moderate-to-severe)
Cerebrovascular disease (affects blood vessels and blood supply to the brain)
Cystic fibrosis
Hypertension or high blood pressure
immune deficiencies, HIV, use of corticosteroids, or use of other immune weakening medicines
Neurologic conditions, such as dementia
Liver disease

Those who are without these issues are at much, much lower risk to die from COVID.

Awesome..thank you.
I appreciate you taking to respond.

How do you feel about the media fear mongering bit?
Not mentioning the mortality rates and only focusing on the 'cases!cases!'?

I feel there's more to this virus than the infection and death stats..

For example; the totalitarian control over the global population through lockdowns, using the virus as an exuse to control us more and more..

In my opinion, we elect governments in to 'serve US the people', not dictate every thought and action of our lives?!..

So, in this situation, we could protect those who are vulnerable and most vulnerable..
then we could suggest to the rest:

["if you are concerned you'll catch it, then we suggest taking precautionary measures such as; staying at home as much as possible, quarantining if symptoms show, wearing a mask (one that actually stops viruses), social distancing from others, etc...

If you're not concerned, then business as usual, with precautionary measures in place if you so choose when out and about OR around concerned people, until we get to the other side of this."]

[Then we could put out a disclaimer claiming that; "Those who have chosen the unconcerned trajectory, when 'out and about' you have agreed that you are willing to risk catching it, possibly getting sick, also possibly becoming immune.
Governments and supporting agencies and institutions will not be held accountable for your choices and actions to do so."

While, those who ARE concerned or vulnerable, will be tucked away safely at home or in hosptial, with Social Media, YouTube, Netflix, Stan, Zoom, Amazon and Skype..
nowhere near the 'unconcerned people', safe and sound, no problems!!!]

That's my 2 cents worth!!😀

" the totalitarian control over the global population through lockdowns..." Do you think it's totalitarian to make you wear a seatbelt? Make it illegal to drink and drive? Really though, the lockdowns wouldn't take so damn long if we actually did it right... like other countries have.

"If you're concerned of catching it..." Is not a good argument as you're suggesting increasing the number of cases to those who carry it without much issue, thereby increasing the risks that those who are at risk at even further risk of catching it. Human error is the variable in this equation. If the total percentage of people who have it goes up, then there are more chances through indirect action to catch it from others *even though all the precautionary measures are taken.* Right now, fortunately, (at least where I live) this isn't a problem as everyone is doing what they're supposed to.

It's also completely unrealistic as you're assuming in every house, those at-risk individuals have no children, no spouses, no extended family living in their home. Not sure if this is the right statistic, but per the census, the average child count is 1.9/household. Opening the schools puts the children at GREAT risk of catching the virus. Of those kids, how many have the underlying conditions? Most of those conditions are inherited genetically.

So you see, increasing the infection rate is extremely dangerous.

In addition to my previous comment: So say a child who is not at risk and brings it home to their family? Or, they have a child at risk at home and someone brings it home? Or, there's more than one kid, healthy kid brings it home and gets mom dad, and sis sick. The infected kid who brought it home won the genetic lottery and didn't have any of those conditions. He's now an orphan. Lots of problems and variations per family household. And that's just Mom, Dad, Bro and Sis. Some families have more, some have four generations in their household.

Since so many suffer from these conditions, many would have to stay home, and you better believe that'll have a negative impact on the economy. Your suggestion I would dare say is very narrowly focused. When dealing with a pandemic, you must consider the community at large rather than the self.

Also, infection rate is not calculated that way. That's how you calculate the percentage of population infected.

Rate requires time

It’s not about protecting us. It’s about controlling us.

This was the crux of my point..
I thought i had the mathematical formulas right, but it shows how much i was listening in math class all those decades ago🤪
