Actually he had "only" dealt them the final blow. The downfall of the Soviet Empire had many factors dating back to the years before WW II.

And as you can see today, the Communists were never being beaten...they had just been waiting for their moment, and they are now stronger than they had ever been. Doing the arms race will not beat them this time, and the trade wars Trump had started had the effect of an agonised fart in a CAT IV-hurricane.
