Poverty mentality.
Poor people spend money in a non-constructive manner far more often than any other group, percentage-wise.

Bad mentality keeps people poor. Good life lesson, even if it's at the expense of about 15% of society ..

Priorities.
Buy what you want, beg for what you actually need.

When you live without excess income you have simpler pleasures. A nice car may be unobtainable but a smoke is not. You could deny yourself a smoke and save that money up to buy a nice car, but that may take several years, in the meantime you want something that pleases you now.

It’s always interesting that we condemn someone who has had nothing and gets something and they “blow it” on what we call frivolities. Don’t begrudge a guy who has lived without who suddenly gets some money and decides to use it to go to Disneyworld. Having enough money to pay your bills with money leftover is a blessing not all hard working people achieve.
