I think I'll have to defer to the veil of ignorance on this one. I'd rather live in a world with an extra 500 possibly-dangerous-but-probably-not-all-of-them people than be unjustly imprisoned. So I'd probably let the 500 prisoners leave. Especially if I could choose who to free. I'm sure I'd be able to find 500 people who shouldn't have been there in the first place.

It is not noted what those other 500 prisoners did, and if they were even guilty or not. As a matter of fact it was not even noted if those 500 prisoners were even legal... I mean, if I lock you up in my cellar or something you are a prisoner too, but your imprisonment was then not legal, but that doesn't matter for the term "prisoner"... So all in all, not enough information.

Mmm good question... But. Truth is.... If it's a small crime the 500 have commited. Then it's fine. But idk, maybe the innocent isn't gat they seem to be. Better safe than sorry, that's what they say but... Of course everythings about perspective.

Would you volunteer to go to jail for the 500 prisoners?
Not saying there's anything wrong w/ your answer...just curious.

no, you have to decide to put one innocent in jail or let 500 killers free
1 up, 4y
I know, but DJC was leaning toward releasing the 500, so I wondered if he or she (I think it's she, if I'm not mistaken...) would volunteer to be the innocent person giving up their freedom for the 500.
Not to provoke her, but if you're for trading 500 convicts for 1 innocent person, it would definitely
make a person consider the question more thoroughly if it was they who would be imprisoned.

I know I'm not trying to be imprisoned while innocent.

It just makes moral sense, that it is flat wrong to imprison the innocent.

Any argument for imprisoning the innocent, is already failed. No context can fix sacrificing an innocent person.

ok let’s say the innocent, was like the most cocky piece of crap, like they bullied you in elementary school for liking a thing, then they liked that thing

if the 500 are rapists and serial killers, jail one innocent. but if they're in prison for small crimes, let them leave.

This is the trolley problem. You are driving up to the gate with a wrongly convicted prisoner or you swerve and crash through the prison wall. This generates 'wrongly released' ex-prisoners. The notion of conviction is not too relevant. As a defense attorney one might pass on a case that is hopeless and work on five hundred others successfully. In this way one condones a 'trolley crash' with justice or one swerves the trolley of justices and saves many others. In the classic trolley problem the guilt or sense that the bystanders might deserve their fate has no bearing, so pardon this pun about train-axel noise, and second (choice) pun is so really bad, and third is just unforgivable. If it did then the trolley problem would have less intriguing solutions. As is here the case.

what’s the third

Bearing (more like a sound reference) is first pun.
Pardon is second pun as in prisoner being pardoned.
And lastly "second chioce" is very forced, in that building up puns as if they became their own dilemna to consider aka the trolley problem enacted as tellers of bad puns, is actually third pun.

for the sake of the problem, if you release 500 criminals, they’re all serial killers, but if you jail one guy, he can’t get out

There is already enough people in this country being jailed for no reason. One more would not matter.

ok, so let’s say, if you keep them in there, the Supreme Court says you have to go in to keep them in there
