Trump isn’t a dummy and he isn’t an ideologue. He’s something else: A con-man, and this is his latest trick.

Trump isn’t a dummy and he isn’t an ideologue. He’s something else: A con-man, and this is his latest trick. | The racism, the sexism, the xenophobia, the insults, the anti-science buffoonery: much of this is calculated. Deep down, Trump is not actually as dumb as he may seem; he’s a political genius in a way. Trump rose upon a grassroots conservative backlash against an intelligent, morally decent black President, aligning himself with many Americans of lesser intelligence who craved one thing above all: to be led by someone willing to validate their retrograde views on social issues and not challenge them intellectually. I’m a Mod here but I’m not the owner and don’t control stream requirements. I think it’s 30 days on ImgFlip/10,000 points.

I can upvote your memes and comments to get you closer there.

He's not a genius. He is a bully with decades of reading emotions and exploiting them BUT not for long term goals.

In Woodward's new book (a good read) Rage has an interview with Kushner- and to paraphrase- the key to understanding Trump is the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. A grinning fool who says If you don't know where you're going, any path will get you there.

Trump IS making this up as he goes along. He has told us this again again. He "trusts his gut." and "has the best instincts." He doesn't plan. He doesn't think ahead. He only lives to survive THAT MOMENT. Not the day. Not the hour. THAT moment.

Trump's best skill is his ability to claim he meant to do that about anything that happens.

I started reading Trump’s niece’s book but it struck me as anecdotal and while I love a good Trump-bashing as much as any other true American, it became tedious quick. It didn’t really reveal anything (in the first few chapters) that I didn’t already know.

I have to make time to read Rage, obviously more so now.

Maybe “genius” is too flattering.

However, it’s significant Trump came from out of nowhere basically to capture one of the major political parties. Many celebrities have tried and failed to enter politics (some, like Schwarzenegger, have succeeded), but none have succeeded at this level before.

Well, none since Reagan I suppose.

Trump isn’t capable of transforming and hijacking the entire country like Hitler, Lenin, or Mao (thank God), but he’s basically done that to the GOP.

If Trump loses as expected, I bet he runs again in 2024. Him or one of his kids. It’s a total cult now.

The aspect about Schwarzenegger that I always admired was his ability to recognize common sense before politics. One of his college commencement speeches was about as un-Republican as a Republican can get, how pulling oneself up by their bootstraps is a fallacy, no one can truly do it alone, it was something to behold and a speech I found truly inspiring.

What's scary about him is he actually knows what he's doing and is purposely causing as much damage as possible

He knows what he's doing and some of his followers are intelligent enough to realize it too, I believe

Not naming names

I would call it "cunning"...look, he's pulling stunts which would have gotten others in jail even with paternal protection since the late 70s, and of course he has gathered enough lackeys around him who are giving advice.

I also wouldn't put it past him that he engages his own troll army. Let's pick "Right1" for example who acts like being stubborn and deranged way out of scale, but to me it seems rather like he is following a textbook for pro-Trump-trolling.

What is really stupefying me is that with all the unfulfilled and broken promises and with all the lies, Trump is still able to garner a large followership. And why the Democrats are not being able to put up a really strong candidate (Biden is not a strong candidate IMHO, Harris might be) to take advantage of Trumps obvious lacks.

Let's hope that the tax papers will wake up those Trumptards who are not being terminally infatuated with the Orange Budgie.
