“Weak authoritarian” is how some describe him.
Trump can kick up dust and brainwash his supporters, accept foreign aid, break campaign finance law with impunity, stack SCOTUS in his favor, and try to manipulate and contest the election in any way he can, but he can’t disqualify candidates and parties and literally rig the outcome in advance and make American democracy a total farce.
Voting will still do the trick. It’s the only check-and-balance left as a practical matter, but it will do.
Russiagate and Ukrainegate didn’t remove Trump but it did shine a light on his campaign team’s and eventually, his own personal overt efforts to manufacture dirt on Biden.
He’s pushed America in about as fascist of a direction as it can go, but even a President like Trump runs up against 200+ years of successful constitutional rule and peaceful transfers of power.
Let’s hope. Although the fact we are even having these discussions is terrifying.
