Whining in the comment section is obnoxious in general. Best method for reporting full-on reposts is to flag the image with a link to the original content.

My thoughts exactly.

Now this has not yet happened to any of my memes (matter of time I expect), but when I browser around on imgflip I see it more and more. Some "complaints" are even given on memes where the poster already noted it themselves it was a repost, which makes it even more annoying. Some memes being targeted actually do appear to be original (at least I used the posts in google image search and the only hit I got directed to the imgflip page, and that is all I can do to check).

If this were a site where we were posting big serious projects, like a game you coded yourself, or where you present music to build up a portfolio, I could understand, but a meme site... a place where we simply post stuff for fun... that goes a bit far.

Repost whiners will always exist and there isn't much I can really do to stop them. I've even made gifs from Youtube videos and gotten whiners complaining that I stole the gif. To help you combat repost whiners, I'll give a little insight into what I generally look for when determining if something is a repost. First thing I look at is the Image Description. What I generally look for is what text was added to the image. If all or most text is original, it generally passes. If there's no original text, I usually deem it a repost. I will also take down images that are blatant reposts of something that recently hit front page whether there's original text or not.

Well, some reposts are indeed a bit annoying... It's rather that the whiners are no pushing things so far that they've become the new memecat. It appears to look like a sport to deem something a repost (even when it isn't), and almost as if they wanna look like a kind of knight by doing so. I even saw a few "repost" whiners in the repost stream, and then I am really thinking "oh my goodness". :)

Yeah, if they're doing it in the repost stream, it's spam as far as I'm concerned.

I would deem it "spam" anyway, and if the stream in question does not allow reposts (which is the owners good right to do, I guess) I think the flag feature is the better alternative, so that would make repost whining still spam in my humble opinion.

I have seen some reposts. I even seen original ones. I don't even comment repost on anyone's images unless I show the link to the original one. There are actually users who make original memes and tried extra hard for them without reposting at all.

Correct! There are users who do put a lot of effort in their memes only to get replies like "this is a repost" or "remove this is a tiktok" etc. etc. etc. Even when the content is in fact original (and if it was on Reddit/TikTok/Whatever it was posted there by the same person who posted it on imgflip, does that still make it a repost then?)

Yes

I completely understand what you are saying that they have to do what's original to prove what's right and wrong.

Well, you are right, but recently, I keep seeing memes on frontpage that is similar from memes on reddit. It makes me very suspicious.

"Recently"? I've seen reposts here since the day I got here. And on similar sites too btw, and not to mention social media like Facebook and Twitter and stuff. It's nothing new... Only when I got here people weren't whining about it.

Well, it is probably impossible for Redditors to repost from imgflip. I am willing to bet every imgfliper that at least 90% of Redditors don't even know that imgflip exist. That is how major imgflippers get their points from reposts or just some lame unsee juice memes. Also, lots of Church's front images looks a hecka like images from r/memes, which makes me very suspicious.

Nothing is impossible. I should be able to repost to Reddit.. I have an account... I barely ever used it though..
