She is correct. Death penalty cases cost much more than life sentence cases for taxpayers. Executions alone are expensive. Regardless, we should do away with these institutions of punishment that do nothing to cure the crime problem in our society.

Death penalty cases typically exceed $1 million. Non-death penalty cases, through to the end of incarceration, are typically below $750,000.

I'm not saying that, but I think most people in prison don't belong there. Prisons only turn people who have committed anti-social acts even more anti-social than before. Our systems don't prevent and rehabilitate criminals, they produce them. We should be investing in community and education, rather than systems of punishment. That would truly prevent crime.

I am not a fan of Trump or any U.S. presidents. I think they should be as far from power as possible and should not be able to run for office again.

You're just talking about case costs. Does that figure include the cost of upkeep for lifers; how much does it cost to feed a lifer for the next 30+ years? How much does their medicine cost? How much are 30 years of wages the guards are paid to keep lifers in line? Add those costs to the court case and you'll she how much pricier it is. Plus there are more people sentenced to life in prison than executed.

While you have a good point about community and education, some people will do crimes despite that, so we need both. Should funds be moved from one to the other? I don't know, but there's a worthwhile discussion.
