And ... frankly ... that's why upvotes, etc., really are meaningless. Not so much now, but even in the recent past there were a lot of folks who if you upvoted one of THEIR memes they would click on your name and upvote a BUNCH of YOUR memes.

So what would happen is some folks would just upvote a bunch of memes whether good or not, figuring, "Upvoting 50 memes will only take me a few minutes. If 10 of those people each go through and upvote 10-20 of MY memes I'll have a lot of upvotes." That's one reason why often you would see a crappy meme near the top for days--because loads of folks are clicking it just in hopes of "reciprocation".

It's the same reason why you'll often see "meme" comments with only 1-2 words. It's because EVERY time you GENERATE a meme Imgflip gives you TWO POINTS. So they'll have some "pre-defined" "comments" like "Good one!" or "Ha!" or just an image with an up-arrow. They click "Add Meme", "Upload your own image", put a space in Top Text, click Generate--and they've got 2 points.

I admit it would be Interesting to see where millions of points come from and how much time over the year was put into that as compared to say learning an instrument or reading a book.

I've had something like 2-3 memes with around 12k-15k+ views. In each case I found the text elsewhere such as a T-shirt company or an existing meme, e.g., "I thought Ariana Grande was a font" a Goth girl saying, "I'll stop wearing black when they come up with a darker color" and 10 Guy saying, "Not to brag but my therapist says I'm above her skill level."

One of the big problems is that now there are SO many memes created that on Fun most of them "fall off" within a few hours--so usually there's no point in posting them there. Frontpage and MEMES_OVERLOAD are better, but have WAY fewer followers.

And frankly, you can add points by going to Create, picking any template, adding a single letter and clicking Generate, then click Change Settings, then Generate, then Change, etc. Every time you GENERATE Imgflip adds 2 points. Even if you never Go to Image Page and save, the "Generate" points don't disappear.
