I heard a recording this morning of President Pandemic saying that COVID 19 is five times more fatal than the flu. He also said he downplayed it because he didn't want people to panic. There were reports of this at the time. Guess what he (and I'll bet a bunch of you were saying at the time.) "No worse than the Flu." "It will be gone by April." "It'll be over by Easter." "The Churches will be full." etc. He did not want people to panic because he was planning to run for re-election on the economy and a strong stock market helped him. The panic he was afraid of was panic selloff of stock.
The authority for President Pandemic to mandate public mask-wearing is found in the Public Health Service Act, which reads (in part),The Secretary of Health and Human Services—delegated in part to the CDC—the authority to make and enforce regulations necessary “to prevent the introduction, transmission, or spread of communicable diseases from foreign countries into the States or possessions, or from one State or possession into any other State or possession.” President Pandemic knew COVID 19 was a killer and chose to not act so stocks would not crash.
